Commission an Original

Robert's style includes using acrylics for the majority of his work, with accents added with an airbrush. Robert is currently accepting original commissions. If you would like a truly unique piece of railroad artwork depicting a favorite scene or memory you may have Robert can make that dream a reality. Investing in a Robert West Original, or Color Lithograph is a wise idea. All of Robert's Original Illustrations are both authentic, and technically accurate. The market on Robert's Originals is an appreciating market. He continually supports and upgrades this market by traveling extensively, not only to promote his work, but to also conduct ongoing research, in order to authenticate his works.

In addition, once an edition of his prints is sold out, there are no reprints made unless the 2nd Rights are sold to the Original owner. This makes many of his SOLD OUT Editions valuable collectors items.

This creates a secondary market for his sold-out editions, with several editions selling for as much as three times the Original retail price.

Robert has been a full-time professionally recognized, railroad illustrator, for 15 years and known in railroad circles, as being one of the top five in the nation.

How does the commissioning process work?

Simply contact us via e-mail below with your request. This can be based on a fond memory you have of the past, or even an event you wished had happened, feel free to describe this in detail. If you have a picture, or a sketch that is even better. Robert has an extensive railroad library and an amazing knowledge of railroads, the countryside and scenic locations in his head. Once we get an idea of what you are looking for and the size, we will quote you a price. If you wish to proceed, you will need to send in a 33% deposit and then we will have Robert create a full size sketch with notes about what he proposes. This will then be mailed or e-mailed to you. Upon your review, comments and approval, Robert will then create the painting. When it is completed, we will e-mail you a picture of it, again for approval. Upon your approval and payment for the final balance, will be carefully package and ship your original artwork to you via UPS insured. We also offer custom framing through another partner and will be happy to frame it for you as well, please let us know if you would like us to quote you on framing as well.
